Market Strategist is a tool to develop and test strategies for buying and
selling stocks. Now you can try out your ideas BEFORE investing real money.
Market Strategist is easy to use but very powerful. Complete with historical
stock market data, you can develop and thoroughly test a set of rules - or
"system" for stock investing.
All instructions required to run Market Strategist appear on the screen as
you go. No manual is required, however a thorough reference manual is pro-
vided with the full version. On-line help for most screens is available by
pressing the <F1> key.
To assist in becoming familiar with the major features of Market Strategist,
select "SYSTEM/Demo (Quick Tour)" from the Main Menu. The Quick Tour is a
hands-off tutorial that takes you through the creation, testing, and re-
porting of a system.
The trading rules are built through easy to use menus - no programming or
equation writing is required. Separate rules for buying, selling, short
selling, and covering short positions can be built. At your option, any rule
can be designated SUPER meaning that it can trigger action alone regardless
of the status of the other rules.
The rules can contain any combination of Primary Variables (price, volume,
earnings, PE ratio, dividend yield, etc.) and Calculations (moving average,
new hi/lo, percent change, stability, etc.).
To help you get started, several systems are already built and saved in the
system catalog. THE FULL VERSION OF THE PROGRAM INCLUDES A SYSTEM THAT OUT-
PERFORMED THE S&P500 BY 66%!!!
In addition to creating rules based on the performance of individual stocks,
you may instead look at an industry group or the stock market as a whole --
or how the individual stock performs COMPARED TO the market or its industry
group. There is no limit on the complexity of your rules, yet the menu sys-
tem keeps you focused on a small area of your strategy and allows you to re-
view your system at any point.
Once built, the system is tested. While testing, you see a trade by trade
report and a continuously updated status of your trading account in both
tabular and graphical format. Watch as the results are graphed alongside an
equivalent hypothetical buy-and-hold investment in a basket of stocks rep-
resenting the S&P500. You will be able to see how your system performed, in
both real dollars and relative to the market as a whole, in both bull and
bear markets.
Upon completion of testing, a series of reports is automatically generated
and you may select to view or print any or all of them. All items crucial to
showing how well your system performed are available. You may request a
price-volume graph of any stock showing points at which you bought and sold.
Group by group industry summaries are generated along with summaries of long
and short trades, closed and open positions, and many more.
This demo version of Market Strategist is fully functional. The only limita-
tion is the database--five years of data on two (2) stocks. The full version
contains 5 years on 100 stocks and 84 industry groups, expandable to 500
stocks with quarterly updates available. The database is unique in that it
contains not only price and volume histories but also earnings, dividends,
and shares outstanding. As a result of the small demo database, the ability
to select certain industry groups for testing is disabled in the demo version.
WARNING: In all likelihood, you will find a system that performs very well
on these 2 stocks. BEWARE - a system should not be applied unless tested on
many stocks over a long period of time.
The system requirements are minimal: an IBM compatible PC, XT, AT with DOS
3.1 or above, 512K memory, and a hard disk drive. Speed of strategy testing
is dependent on the speed of computer.
